Hush, I’m Driving

Chevy ParkingWe picked up my truck today! I even managed to drive it off the lot and down the street to a cemetery where I could safely practice. The pedals on the left is interesting, but not impossible. I actually took my prosthesis off so I wouldn’t be tempted to try and make it step on anything. There’s only a little mental block of my instinct being to use the leg I don’t have to drive, but I think that’ll fade fast.

Carter was very helpful in making sure I know where the break is in an emergency. The bastard. We’re tooling along in the nice quiet cemetery when he suddenly hollers “Oh my God! Stop!” I slam on the break, heart slamming in my chest because WTF?! He’s all smiles and says, “Cool. You didn’t even hesitate.” I spent a minute smacking him to calm myself back down. I also made him swear he wouldn’t do that again while we drove home. When we got here, I held my prosthesis and used it to kick his ass a couple times before he got away from me.

So there are now 2 big trucks, black and silver, sitting in the driveway sunning themselves. I feel like a kid with his driver’s permit just itching for a reason to go somewhere. I’m making up reasons, like I’ll do groceries on Monday, but the pharmacy on Tuesday, and then Lowe’s on Wednesday. I actually had a thought about buying something the wrong size so I could drive back and return it. So far, I’m definitely driving to church tomorrow and that’s enough for now.
